You may not be able to help EVERY nonprofit in your community... but together, WE can!

The CommunityAid Foundation exists to support individuals and families experiencing hardship while strengthening the nonprofit organizations that serve them. Through its Nonprofit Partner Program, the Foundation works alongside more than 500 nonprofit partners across Central Pennsylvania—all of whom focus on food security, housing stability, or other basic needs—providing resources, funding, and support that help meet urgent needs and create pathways toward stability.

At the heart of this work is the Care Card Program. These prepaid store cards are distributed through trusted nonprofit partners and allow individuals and families to access essential clothing and household goods in a way that preserves dignity and choice. Whether it’s a parent selecting warm clothing for a child, an individual preparing for a job interview, or a family rebuilding after a crisis, Care Cards provide a simple but meaningful way to meet real, immediate needs. In 2025, the Foundation distributed $270,000 in Care Cards—more than 10,700 individual cards—reaching thousands of people across the region. Reflecting growing demand across our partner network, the Foundation anticipates distributing at least $300,000 in Care Cards in 2026 to continue meeting these critical needs.

The Foundation also provides support through our Nonprofit Emergency Grant Program, offering timely funding to partners responding to urgent and unexpected situations. In 2025, $480,000 in grants helped organizations address critical needs such as housing instability, food insecurity, and crisis response, ensuring that individuals and families could receive help when it mattered most.

In addition, the Foundation invests in the long-term strength of its partners through LIFTS Workshops (Learning Initiatives for Thriving Services). These gatherings bring nonprofit leaders and staff together for training, shared learning, and collaboration. In 2025, 195 organizations participated, strengthening connections and expanding the collective impact of services across the community.

Together, these programs reach tens of thousands of individuals and families each year, including those facing financial hardship, housing instability, and unexpected life challenges. By working through trusted nonprofit partners, the CommunityAid Foundation is able to respond with compassion, flexibility, and efficiency—ensuring that help is both accessible and meaningful.

Through this collaborative approach, the Foundation not only meets immediate needs but also strengthens the network of care surrounding each individual and family, helping to build a more stable and supportive community for all.
