Kaltreider-Benfer Library is a place where your generosity becomes opportunity. Because of you, children learn to read, teens find a safe place after school, seniors stay connected, and neighbors gain the tools they need to move forward.

While we proudly collaborate with the York County Library System, Kaltreider-Benfer Library is not a branch library. We are an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, guided by our own board of directors and responsible for our own operating budget. More than one-third of that budget comes from private donors like you, including those who give through Give Local York. Your support directly keeps these services available to the community.

Your gift today helps ensure that quality early childhood education continues. Each year, you make possible more than 250 programs for children, welcoming over 7,000 attendees. These programs build the foundations of reading—listening, sounds in words, vocabulary, rhythm, rhyme, and letter and number recognition—during the years when 90% of a child’s brain is developing.

Because of you, seniors have a welcoming place to visit and connect. Many tell us these visits provide comfort during lonely times and help them discover new interests. Your gift ensures they are not alone.

You also provide teens with a safe, supportive space after school. Located just up the street from Red Lion High School and Middle School, the library is a place teens can walk to when they have nowhere else to go. Your generosity helps keep them safe, engaged, and supported.

Finally, your gift provides vital access to technology. The digital divide remains real—especially for those who are unemployed or underemployed. Because of you, community members can use computers, access the internet, create resumes, apply for jobs, and receive help learning how to use these tools.
