New Freedom Heritage Inc

New Freedom Heritage is a volunteer group whose mission is to preserve New Freedom’s heritage by fostering community relationships to enhance and preserve the town’s cultural character. 

This group sponsors the Heritage Museum of New Freedom, located at 22 Railroad Avenue next to Freedom Green Community Park in the center of town. The museum serves to present New Freedom’s history and preserves some of our town’s artifacts. Items you can see at the museum include artifacts from New Freedom High School, the baseball team, long standing businesses which helped to build up the community of New Freedom, preserved pictures of local buildings and the railroad, as well as other fun and interesting items. The museum is open the first and third Sunday of each month from 1-4pm and is totally manned by local volunteers.

New Freedom Heritage sponsors several community events such as New Freedom Fest which is held the third Saturday of September. The fest is an old-time “festival of small-town life” and includes live entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, pony rides, food trucks, pet parade, kid games, pumpkin painting, and much more – all centered around the beautiful and historic town of New Freedom, Pennsylvania. 

In addition to the fest, New Freedom Heritage has sponsored several murals on local buildings.  Our newest was just finished in 2025 which was painted on the side of Paesano’s Italian Restaurant as a joint effort with Susquehannock High School students, Paesano’s and volunteers from local businesses and community members. This is the 5th mural that New Freedom Heritage has sponsored since 2005. 

New Freedom Heritage with community sponsors and the New Freedom Lions hosts Movie Nights at Freedom Green Park during June and August. It is a wonderful evening for local families to gather with their children and neighbors to watch family friendly movies projected onto a building under a night sky. 

You can often see floats, featuring members of NFH, exhibiting historical events or memories of times gone by, in the New Freedom July Fourth Parade and the Christmas Parade. New Freedom Heritage members collected and compiled photos and information about New Freedom and published their Sesquicentennial Book.  

In the past several years we have been receiving lots of donations from local residents, and our museum needs to be expanded.  We are hoping to get enough money to add on to the back of the museum.
