Rivers Edge Community Services

The Eastern York Workcamp Initiative provides an opportunity for youth and adult volunteers to grow in their relationship with Christ while conducting construction repairs to homes in our community.

River's Edge Community Services is a faith-based human services organization serving neighbors along the Susquehanna River in York County, Pennsylvania. River's Edge Community Services - in conjunction with Group Cares -  biennially supports the Eastern York Workcamp Initiative.

River's Edge Community Services is sponsoring a GROUP Workcamp in York, PA (to be held June 20 - 26, 2027), where up to 250 youth and leaders from across the country will come together to provide basic home repairs for older adults, people with low-income, and/or those who are disabled. Projects will include constructing wheelchair ramps, building porches, adding trailer skirting, and painting interiors and exteriors of homes.

During the GROUP Workcamp, all youth and adult volunteers will be accommodated at Eastern York High School, where they will sleep and eat. Eastern York Workcamp Initiative year-long volunteers are currently in the process of selecting the homes that will benefit from these repairs and preparing the required technical job site documentation for each project. A week before the Workcamp begins, volunteers will order and arrange the delivery of all materials needed for each service project. Construction project managers will oversee and support the work at designated job sites.

Contributions to River's Edge Community Services through Give Local York will be used to offset the cost of materials, with 100% of contributions directly funding these expenses.

The impact of the Workcamp is twofold - more than 40 households - comprised of older adults, people with low-income, and/or those who have a disability will receive free home repairs, including porch and deck repair, wheelchair ramp construction, indoor painting, and outdoor painting. The greatest impact, though, is the youth and adults who are able to deepen their relationships with Christ while being His hands and feet in our community (Ephesians 2:10).
