Since COVID began in 2020 we have found that loneliness, depression, and all around discomfort has set in with many more people. This is a perfect storm if you add preexisting medical and mental health diagnosis's. Loneliness has the same impact on mortality as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. We need to begin to address mental wellness just as we do physical wellness. Suicide Prevention of York has been working now for 18 years to prevent suicide in York County. There has not been a month without a suicide since December 1999. In 2018 we had the most suicides in the history of York County and the most youth suicides in the state.  In the past 5 years York County has lost 349 (2024) people to suicide but has left thousands behind to grieve.  We need people to understand that suicide is not the answer, it is final, and it leaves many people behind to grieve for the rest of their lives. Please help us to improve the mental wellness of York County. Help us help the York community to bring wellness to ALL ages by learning how to build resiliency through positivity in 2026 and beyond. We provide education, prevention, intervention, and postvention to ALL York Countians, ALL ages, and we do not discriminate.

Who We Are

In 2007 we began to see the rise in suicides in York County. Nobody was talking about suicide.
In 2018 York County alone had 92 suicides, a record rate for the county. York also had a record rate for teen suicides. The county consistently has a higher suicide rate than most counties in PA per capita.
Suicide is mostly a preventable tragedy. Just like cancer, HIV, and opioid addiction, suicide is a major public health problem that has a devastating effect on our families, schools, faith-based organizations, and businesses. It takes lives, harms families, and creates a human and financial toll on our families and communities.
The Mission of Suicide Prevention of York is to provide education for and collaboration with the community to prevent suicide.
Our Vision is to reduce the suicide rate, to eliminate the stigma, and to increase survivor (individuals touched by suicide) support.
Help us to help make York County mentally well. All donations stay in York County to help families and individuals battling suicide ideation, their families, friends, and survivor grief.
