Veterans Lake Fishing started when a Vietnam vet buddy explained how he used fishing as a way to handle some of his PTSD and stress on his job affecting daily his mind, body and spirit. He passed and left us some money and in 2020, Veterans Lake Fishing was founded. We are determined to provide veterans and their families experiences through utilizing fishing and boating and communication skills while growing a support system within our community and our families. Our 501(c)(3) Veterans' charity assists veterans to learn to relax, enjoy and appreciate their families and the great outdoors. Time on Lake Marburg in Hanover will help reduce the affects of life's stressful periods while providing friendship and support to the veterans. We have a pontoon boat, bass boat and 2 kayaks and will take out whatever the veteran is interested in. Our time on the water begins in April and runs through October 31 each year when the boats must come out of the water. We offer free fishing rods if needed, worms or lures, water, snacks, suntan lotion, life jackets to use ALL FREE. If the veteran or a family member plans to fish, they must provide their own fishing license. We also talk with the veteran telling them about the other veteran organizations that are available to them here in York county. We became part of the York Vet Network just this year and have attended several events to learn what is available to our local veterans and where to go if in need of help.
Veterans Lake Fishing has been an active 501c(3) Charity since 2020. The Mission of this Charity is to assist veterans and their families to be able to go fishing or sightseeing on Codorus Lake, to relax and unwind and to share fishing skills with other veterans. There is no cost to veterans - programs are free. Equipment such as fishing poles, worms and lures will be provided as well as water, snacks, suntan lotion and bathrooms which are located throughout the Lake shores. Also available are life jackets for adults and children with prior notice so we know what sizes to bring. There are three types of vessels available - pontoon boat, tracker bass boat and 2 kayaks. Depending on an individual's skill level, arrangements can be made to assist the veteran so they have a great time on the Lake. Fishing license is required if fishing. The pontoon boat can be wheelchair accessible also.
