Affordable Housing Advocates' mission is to enhance the quality of lives and communities by advocating for, creating, and sustaining affordable housing options.

We receive calls every week from people in heartbreaking situations:

“I had to leave because of domestic violence. I need somewhere safe for me and my child.”

“I’m a senior living on Social Security with nowhere to go…”

“I’ve been on your waiting list for years. Please tell me something’s available.”

Too often, we have to say the hardest thing imaginable: “We’re full.”

There are simply more people in need of affordable housing than we have homes to offer.  Every single one of our rental units has a waitlist—some stretching longer than five years.

Last year, we built and sold a home in Wellsville to a family in need.  Currently, we’re constructing a Three-bedroom home in York City.  And recently, we acquired the former Bell Socialization shelter on King Street, with plans to renovate or convert it into affordable apartments.  We also help our residents work toward independence through our Family Self-Sufficiency Program.  It gives them one-on-one support, helps them save money, and gives them tools to build a more stable future.

Because of the support from our community, we’ve made a real difference, but many living in York still need help.

Please support Affordable Housing Advocates during Give Local York on May 1 & 2 so more people can have not just a place to live, but a chance to build a better life.
