Codorus Trout Unlimited was founded on the banks of York County’s Codorus Creek in 1988 by local anglers. Our purpose is to protect and retain an outstanding tailwater fishery formed quite by accident, when a local paper mill dammed the creek for its operations two decades before. The progeny of stocked brown trout took hold in the cold, clean water below the bottom release of Lake Marburg, near the Maryland line. The result is one of southern Pennsylvania’s sleeper wild trout streams. A truly farm-country creek in its character, our active work includes stabilizing the Codorus stream channel, reducing siltation, and improving water quality as a grant facilitator and project manager. We are also very active in landowner relations and stewardship of this resource, which falls almost entirely on private land, to ensure access to this incredible fishery for generations to come. We are dedicated to sparking a passion for conservation, fishing, and the outdoors, increasing our fold to new and diverse groups of anglers and conservationists who will carry on our work into the future.

Mission Statement: Codorus Trout Unlimited conserves and enhances the unique wild trout fishery of Codorus Creek through stream restoration, water quality improvement, and strong landowner partnerships. We inspire stewardship and a passion for conservation, ensuring this resource thrives for future generations.

A few of the areas we use funds in our ongoing efforts:

  • Ongoing support for five Trout in the Classroom locations in York County
  • Cover the full amount of tuition for one local youth to attend the Rivers Conservation and Fly Fishing Youth Camp annually
  • Assist in stream restoration, bank stablization and debris removal thats benefit the local, Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay watersheds by reducing erosion and sediment
  • Sharing fly casting, fly tying and invertebrate sampling opportunities with the local community, including Scouts BSA and the STREAM Girls program
  • Ongoing mainentance and cellular data plan for our stream monitoring station located in the Class A, Special Regulations, section of Codorus Creek
  • Materials and supplies to support fly casting and tying instruction
  • Provide engaging programming including speakers from the local conservation and fly fishing communities
  • General ongoing expenses such as meeting and event fees, website and other expenses
