Neighbors in Action. Friends at Their Side.

Everyone is part of the neighborhood - even those without walls. Your gift helps fill the gaps for our unhoused neighbors.

What We Do

Friends & Neighbors' coordinated street outreach program builds relationships with and provides services to our unsheltered neighbors in York City and York County.

Our five-person outreach team meets people where they are - in camps, in cars, on the street. They make phone calls for benefits. Help with transportation. Guide someone to shelter when they're ready. Provide survival gear to those who choose to remain outdoors or can't access shelter for various reasons.

With each engagement, our advocates build trusting relationships and gain a deeper understanding of what's led to each person's situation. This lets us connect neighbors to the right services through our collaborative network of providers.

We also run The Beacon, a day shelter and resource center open four afternoons a week. Neighbors can meet with service providers, receive their mail, rest, get a cup of coffee or snack, see our advocates -- even get a haircut. We even have a safe space for their children to play.

It's all part of the continuum of care we provide.

We don't just call ourselves Friends & Neighbors. We live it.

Why Give Local York Matters

In 2025, our team:

  • Connected with 1,637 unhoused neighbors
  • Traveled over 1,500 miles reaching people across York County
  • Welcomed an average of 100 visits per day at The Beacon

We're grateful for the supply donations and support we receive.

What we need most now is funding for the people who do this work -- the advocates who walk those 1,500 miles, who staff The Beacon, who build relationships over weeks and months.

Your gift today funds the team that shows up in the neighborhood each day.

Our Goal: $35,000

Your donation will help us:

  • Keep our five-person outreach team on the street and at The Beacon
  • Cover gas costs to reach neighbors across York County
  • Provide flexible gap funding for things like bus passes, and fees that can't wait for grant cycles
  • Staff The Beacon four days a week so neighbors have a place to rest and connect to services
