For more than four decades, NAMI York County has been a steady source of hope for individuals and families in York City facing the challenges of mental health conditions. What began in 1984 as a small group of parents and advocates determined to support one another has grown into a trusted, city‑centered organization offering free, confidential, and compassionate programs to thousands of York residents each year.
Our story is rooted in lived experience. Every support group, every class, every conversation is led by people who have walked this journey themselves—people who know what it feels like to struggle, to search for answers, and to need a community that understands. That is what NAMI York County provides: a place where no one has to face mental health challenges alone.
Today, our programs form a vital part of York County’s mental‑health safety net. Adults and youth living with mental health symptoms find connection and coping skills through NAMI Connection Recovery Support Groups. Families supporting a loved one find strength, guidance, and community through Family Support Groups. Parents and caregivers of youth receive life‑changing education through NAMI Basics, while Family‑to‑Family and Family & Friends equip loved ones with tools to communicate, advocate, and navigate crisis. Adults seeking to better understand their own recovery find empowerment through Peer‑to‑Peer. Helping youth navigate mental health with peers in the PAUSE program and create an environment to break down the stigma.
Every program is free. Every program is confidential. Every program is built on compassion, understanding, and the belief that recovery is possible.
Your support during Give Local York makes this work possible. Donations help us expand free support groups, train peer leaders, strengthen crisis‑response education, and launch new LGBTQIA+ programming. When you give to NAMI York County, you help someone in our city find hope, connection, and a path forward.
Mental health affects every neighborhood, every family, every generation. Together, we can ensure that York City remains a place where people are met with understanding, not stigma—where recovery is supported, not faced alone—and where every person has access to the care, community, and compassion they deserve.
