Celebrating 25 years of service to the community
To commemorate the burning of the Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge during the Civil War, Susquehanna National Heritage Area this June will light all 26 piers spanning the Susquehanna River in a spectacular culmination of our annual Riverfest. Generous donations will make that happen.
For Juneteenth, we will offer a movie night at the historic Mifflin Farm in Wrightsville, where people can watch "Glory" on an outdoor screen. We will also lead hikers to the shores of the Susquehanna and paddle across to Columbia, following the path to freedom used by so many who escaped enslavement. Donations and grants ensure this will be a free event.
And this spring, busloads of students will embark on scavenger hunts at the Zimmerman Center for Heritage and its waterfront pavilion on Long Level Road, learning about Capt. John Smith’s explorations and the history of the Susquehanna River. They will take a guided hike to Native Lands County Park, discover how human actions impact the health of the water, and be sworn in as Junior Rangers.
Again, generous donations make these field trips available at no cost to school districts.
Your donation today, no matter the size, supports these and many more ways we help elevate the nationally important stories of York and Lancaster counties.
