Our History
Founded in 2019 by Emily Garrigan, West Shore Wildlife Center began with a focus on Eastern Cottontails and quickly expanded to include a wide range of species, including Virginia Opossums, Mallards, and reptiles. In 2024, we moved from Emily’s home to a dedicated facility in Dover, PA, allowing us to care for nearly all native species with a dedicated team of professional staff and volunteers. As we strategically plan for the future, we are committed to expanding our resources and services to make an even greater impact on our community and beyond.
Our Mission
With the decline of wild, natural spaces, wildlife increasingly lives in close proximity to human neighborhoods, often leading to conflicts. Our mission is to inspire coexistence between humans and wildlife by providing compassionate care, professional advice, and education to ease these tensions. We strive to release our patients back into their natural habitats, ensuring they can continue to live free. Through our work, we aim to inspire everyone to be better neighbors for the health of our communities, wildlife, and our planet.
Our Non-Profit Organization
West Shore Wildlife Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization funded entirely by community donations. As the only wildlife rehabilitation center in York County, we extend our services to surrounding areas, including Lancaster County, Adams, Dauphin, and Cumberland. Our work is driven by our commitment to care, education, and the support of generous individuals like you. Every contribution helps us continue our mission of providing vital wildlife rehabilitation services and educational programming to the community.
Our Programs
We offer emergency rehabilitation services for sick, injured, and orphaned Pennsylvania wildlife, free of charge to residents, government agencies, and businesses. Our expert team provides professional advice on the natural history and behavior of each species, helping prevent injuries and disease transmission. We are committed to humane solutions and never recommend removal or culling of native wildlife. Our educational programs are designed to inspire empathy and understanding, teaching both children and adults how to coexist peacefully with the wildlife around us. Together, we can create a safer environment for both people and animals.
