TRAILS START WITH US!

With your help, we're ready to build more miles of trail and continue the restoration of a stream! YES, York County Rail Trail Authority bought 8.5 miles of dormant railroad in 2020 to expand the Hanover Trolley Trail. In 2022, we removed the rails and cleared the corridor to prepare for the building of more rail trail miles. In 2023, 2.1 miles was completed outside of Spring Grove traveling through Jackson Township. In 2024 we began the restoration of Oil Creek in Heidelberg Township, along with a mile and half of trail starting at Gitts Run Road. 2025 promises to be a stellar year with the completion of restoring Oil Creek and trail mileage to Jacob's Mill Road.

With your help, York County Rail Trail Authority will continue to build our county's trail system - taking you new places such as the one above in Jackson Township - where you can breathe deeply, be touched by warm sunshine, hear the soothing sounds birds and a stream, and become briefly lost in the beauty of magical places.  Your donation to Give Local York will convert this once dormant 8.5-mile rail line into new miles of rail trail!

Mission

York County Rail Trail Authority has been around since 1990 developing over 31 miles of multi-use, off-road trails across York County. Our 10 volunteer directors and one fulltime staff person were the "might" behind development of the Heritage Rail Trail, its northern extension, and sections of the Hanover Trolley Trail.

In 2020, the Rail Trail Authority purchased 8.5 miles of dormant rail line, opening opportunities to connect the existing sections of the Hanover Trolley Trail and advance trail development into additional communities. In the coming months and years, the Rail Trail Authority will work to convert this dormant rail line into an exceptional rail trail to rival the Heritage Rail Trail, bring recreational opportunities to residents from York to Hanover, and provide economic benefits to local businesses.

Since 1990, the Rail Trail Authority has garnered nearly $10.5 million in grants to support trail development. Because these grants require matching funds, generous donors all across York County have made our work possible. Your generous contributions make our work possible. We can't thank you enough!

During a time when we all need so very much to work our bodies and rest our minds, we invite you to Give Local York and then visit your favorite rail trail knowing you made it all possible!
