YWCA Hanover

A nonprofit organization

YWCA Hanover is a nonprofit organization with over 100 years of dedicated service to the Hanover community. As our community has grown and evolved, so have our programs, expanding to meet both current and emerging needs with compassion, innovation, and purpose.

Children's Learning Academy

As you drive down West Chestnut Street, you may have noticed the construction of our new Children’s Learning Academy, which will allow us to expand much-needed childcare services in our community. Affordable childcare is more than a service; it is a lifeline for families and a cornerstone of a stronger community. For the children, we provide an enriching environment where they can play, learn, and develop the social and emotional skills they need to thrive. In addition, nearly 50 percent of our students receive childcare subsidies, providing parents with peace of mind knowing their children are in a safe and nurturing environment while they work to build stability for their families.

Mission Outreach Programs

The community also benefits from our mission outreach programs for youth and adults. Programs like Girls Loving Life equip young people with the skills to become thoughtful and compassionate future leaders. Coming this Fall is a new STEAM program for grade school youth. Our mission outreach programs for adults include a book club, Beginner Spanish, and recently a Holocaust information series that promoted understanding, empathy, and the importance of remembrance.

YWCA Hanover's Safe Home

Some of the most vulnerable members of our community are victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. Our Safe Home program offers support services for these victims through a 24-hour hotline, crisis counseling, and access to vital resources that empower survivors to rebuild their lives in safety and stability. For many, Safe Home represents the critical first step toward recovery and self-sufficiency.

Mary endured abuse from her husband for years. It wasn't until he started becoming aggressive with their 3-year-old daughter that Mary knew she had to leave. She was financially dependent on him, and that's how he wanted it to be. She had no place to live, little clothing, and a small income from a part-time job. When she arrived at Safe Home, not only was she able to receive safe temporary housing, but Mary and her daughter also received accompaniment to the Courthouse to get a Protection from Abuse (PFA) order against her abuser. After feeling safe in a new home, she asked her employer for more hours and became a full-time employee with benefits. Safe Home was with her through her transition to a healthy life and continued supporting her with free counseling services for her and her child. Food and gas cards were provided when needed. Mary and her daughter now enjoy a peaceful and healthy life together.

Please consider making a gift today to support YWCA Hanover and our mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Together, we can nurture safety, learning, and hope for our community.
