Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7012 New Freedom, PA

A nonprofit organization

WHAT WE NEED HELP WITH:  We have an urgent need to raise the final funds to begin construction of our Post’s new ADA compliant Home, while we continue to complete our important activities below.  If you wish to donate to one of our projects, that's fine too, as we can use the money to support our impactful activities below.

WHAT WE DO:  We honor and serve our veterans, active-duty military, and their families. We also support local organizations and charities, and lead in teaching patriotism and the true cost of freedom. Last year, our VFW and their Auxiliary volunteered almost 4,000 hours and funds to serve veterans and our community:

  • Sending Care Packages to Deployed Military and Veterans
  • Donating and Organizing to Help Veterans and Increase Awareness of their Problems: PTSD, Emotional and Family Support, Homelessness, Poverty, Substance Abuse, and Suicide Prevention
  • Holding Bingo Parties and Luncheons for Hospitalized Veterans.  We also mail them birthday and holiday cards and calendars.
  • Organizing Local Wreaths Across America (placing 1,550 wreaths locally in 2023 on veterans graves)
  • Placing Flags on Veterans’ Graves
  • Planning Memorial Day Ceremonies and Hero Sign Walkways
  • Organizing Community Children’s Egg Hunts and Holiday Parties
  • Sponsoring Youth Patriotic Contests and Scholarships
  • I-83 Rest Stop Coffee Breaks for Holiday Weekend Travelers
  • Donating Toys, Winter Coats, Hats, Gloves, Socks, Food to the Local Pantry, Eyeglasses, Hearing Aids,  Cancer Aid & Research Funding
  • Supporting Community Events: Other Community Organizations and Churches, Festivals, Parades, Fireworks, School Youth Groups

OUR HISTORY:  In 1946 the New Freedom VFW Post 7012 mustered into service, and in 1948 purchased their current Post home at 123 W. Main Street, along with several houses in that block to provide temporary housing for returning war veterans. In 2020 we sold the Post’s home and properties as plans took shape to build a new facility to be ADA compliant and to support the needs of the growing membership and community more fully. The Post’s veterans and Auxiliary meet monthly, and the Post’s Canteen remains open at the Main Street rented location until we can build our new Post Home.
