With your help, we'll continue to add more miles to the HANOVER TROLLEY TRAIL. It's a great story of how these once dormant rail lines ---for trolley and railroad transport -- are now being transformed into York County's next long-distance rail trail. Take a quick look at the latest work to build the HANOVER TROLLEY TRAIL...
In 2020, York County Rail Trail Authority (YCRTA) bought two sections of dormant rail line totaling 8.5 miles from Genesee & Wyoming Railway to expand earlier sections of the Hanover Trolley Trail built along the MetEd electric corridor.
In 2022, YCRTA removed the rails and cleared the corridor to prepare for the building of more rail trail miles.
In 2023, 2.1 miles of trail were completed outside of Spring Grove traveling through Jackson Township.
In 2024, YCRTA completed the restoration of Oil Creek Phase 1 and added another mile to the Hanover Trolley Trail at Gitts Run Road to connect from the MetEd corridor to the rail corridor--both projects in Heidelberg Township
In 2025, Oil Creek Phase 2 Restoration was completed and the Hanover Trolley Trail extended another mile to Jacobs Mill Road.
In 2026, a new parking lot with a fantastic boardwalk over the wetlands and bridge over Oil Creek will be constructed.
With your GIVE LOCAL YORK financial support, York County Rail Trail Authority will continue to build our county's trail system - taking you new places such as the one above in Heidelberg Township - where you can breathe deeply, be touched by warm sunshine, hear the soothing sounds birds and a stream, and become briefly lost in the beauty of magical places. Your donation to GIVE LOCAL YORK will convert this once dormant 8.5-mile rail line into new miles of rail trail!
