The Historic Prospect Hill Cemetery Heritage Foundation is dedicated to preserving, protecting, and sharing the extraordinary history held within the grounds of Prospect Hill Cemetery—one of York County’s most significant cultural and historic landmarks. Our mission goes far beyond basic maintenance. We work to ensure that every monument, pathway, story, and sacred space is cared for with dignity, respect, and historical accuracy.

What Our Fundraising Supports

1. Preservation of Historic Monuments and Structures
Many of the memorials at Prospect Hill Cemetery date back to the mid-1800s, and time, weather, and environmental conditions have taken a toll. Funds help restore aging monuments, stabilize historic markers, repair damage, and ensure these irreplaceable pieces of history remain for future generations.

2. Protection and Revitalization of Potter’s Field 
Potter’s Field, once overlooked, is now a central part of our preservation mission. This sacred area contains the resting places of individuals whose stories were not preserved in traditional historical records. Our work ensures they are treated with the same honor, dignity, and remembrance as any other individual buried on our grounds. Donations help us restore this section, document burial information, and provide a respectful and permanent place of remembrance.

3. Historical Research and Education 
The Foundation is committed to uncovering and sharing the rich history embedded within the cemetery. Funds support educational programming, guided tours, special historical events, and research efforts that bring long-forgotten stories to light.

4. Community Programs and Memorial Ceremonies
Annual events such as the Court of Valor Ceremony, SafeKeepers Shrine dedication, First Responder Remembrance, and various heritage programs honor those who served, protected, and shaped our community. Donations help ensure these events remain free and open to the community.

5. Grounds Conservation and Beautification 
Prospect Hill Cemetery is both a historic site and a living landscape. Funds are used for ongoing grounds care, including tree maintenance, lawn restoration, environmental projects, and improvements that make the cemetery safe, beautiful, and accessible.
