At the historic Mifflin Farm, we are preserving an important stop on the Underground Railroad where freedom-seekers were sheltered and ushered to safety in Lancaster County. And we are developing a world-class history center and art museum to help tell this region’s amazing stories.

At the Zimmerman Center for Heritage, thousands of visitors learn about the original people who lived along the Susquehanna. This site also serves as Pennsylvania’s Official Visitor Contact and Passport Station for the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail.

More than 4,000 passengers boarded the Chief Uncas last year for theme tours focusing on the burning of the Columbia-Wrightsville Bridge to .

We welcomed 4,260 passengers aboard the Chief Uncas this season, meeting our goal of 4,000+ passengers and breaking the previous record set in 2023! Theme tours included Flames Across the Susquehanna, Native Peoples of the Susquehanna, and Haunted Heritage, which generated repeat passengers. With new motors installed last year, SNHA operated 4 tours/day for a total of 248 trips, including 31 charters and numerous partnership trips with Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, Berks County History Center, Ma & Pa Railroad Preservation Society, Red Lion Grange, Lancaster History, PBS Travels with Darley, Pride of the Susquehanna, and Lavender Acres Winery.

Our heritage area covers all of York and Lancaster counties and contains more than 50 natural and cultural sites, as well as abundant outdoor recreational opportunities. These places renew, refresh, and inspire. They connect us to our place in the larger stories of nature, history, and community. Susquehanna National Heritage Area ensures these places and resources remain available to future generations.

As we expand, we increasingly rely on the generous support of people like you. Your donation helps us offer more school field trips, develop innovative educational programs, and enhance our advocacy for the great cultural and natural resources along the river.

Help me reach my goal today. Any gift is appreciated.
