Hi, I’m Megan, Visitor Services Manager at Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, part of the Susquehanna National Heritage Area (SNHA). At Columbia Crossing, we help people explore the shoreline and river towns of the Susquehanna — one of the most significant waterways in the world.

I absolutely love my job — especially working with 4th and 5th graders on our field trips! I get to help them discover how special the river is, from stream studies and animal adaptations to canoeing adventures on the Susquehanna. Watching their curiosity grow (and their excitement when they spot wildlife or get their hands wet in the stream) reminds me why this work matters.

SNHA connects the people and places of Lancaster and York Counties, helping communities celebrate the history, nature, and culture that make this region unique. At the historic Mifflin Farm, we’re preserving an important stop on the Underground Railroad, and we’re developing a world-class history center and art museum to tell the amazing stories of this region and its people. At Zimmerman we welcome visitors on River Discovery boat tours aboard the Chief Uncas, offer river‑art collections, hike in Native Lands Co Park, facilitate Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail Jr. Rangers and share the stories of the Susquehannock people and the river’s deep past.

Our heritage area includes more than 50 natural and cultural sites, over 100 miles of trails, 10+ scenic overlooks, and so much more to explore. These places renew, refresh, and inspire us. They remind us of our place in the larger stories of nature, history, and community.
