Help Me Support the Susquehanna National Heritage Area
This year, I’m raising support for Susquehanna National Heritage Area (SNHA) because I see every day how our programs make a real difference in our community. Instead of a fundraising amount, my goal is to gather 10 donors—10 people willing to invest in the stories, places, and experiences that make the Susquehanna River such an important part of our region.
SNHA connects people of all ages to the history, culture, and natural beauty of the Susquehanna in York and Lancaster Counties. Our work goes far beyond museum walls—we create meaningful experiences that help people understand the river’s past, appreciate its present, and feel inspired to care for its future.
Your donation directly supports programs like:
• Field Trips for Local Students: We welcome hundreds of kids each year to the Zimmerman Center for Heritage and Columbia Crossing. There, they explore our sites and Native Lands County Park, become citizen scientists by conducting a stream study, and paddle on the Susquehanna with Canoemobile. Many students have never been on the river before. Donations help cover the supplies, staff time, and hands-on learning tools that bring these experiences to life.
• Paddles and Outdoor Adventures: SNHA leads guided paddles and outdoor programs that give families, beginners, and curious explorers a safe and welcoming way to experience the Susquehanna. These trips help people build confidence, enjoy nature, and discover the river’s beauty up close.
• Free and Low-Cost Public Programs: From evening lectures to creative workshops, seasonal events, and community gatherings, SNHA offers programs that help people learn, connect, and explore—no matter their age or background.
• Preservation and Storytelling: SNHA stewards places like the Zimmerman Center for Heritage, Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, and the historic Mifflin Farm. At each location, we share powerful stories—from Indigenous history to river industries to the Civil War and Underground Railroad—that shaped our region.
These programs matter because they bring people together. They inspire curiosity, spark appreciation for local history, and help our community form deeper connections with the Susquehanna River.
Why I’m Asking for Your Support
As someone who works directly with kids, families, teachers, and visitors, I’ve seen firsthand how meaningful these programs can be. I’ve watched students light up during hands-on lessons, families discover new places together, and adults find joy in learning something new about our region.
Your donation—of any size—helps SNHA keep these opportunities accessible and engaging. It supports field trips, makes public programs possible, and helps us preserve the places where the river’s stories come alive.
If you’re able, please consider contributing and helping me reach my goal of 10 donors. Every single donor truly makes a difference, and I would be so grateful for your support.
Thank you for helping us keep the river’s stories flowing.
